General Queries

What is Video Streaming?

In2Vista's products stream video via the Internet. A streamed file is simultaneously downloaded and viewed - but leaves behind no physical file on your computer - providing the ability to see a video without having to wait for it to complete downloading first (buffering). Streaming technology is transparent to end-users, provided they have Windows Media Player which comes as standard with Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.

What determines the quality of the streamed video content?

A major factor in the quality of the video streaming is the speed of your internet connection.   In2Vista programming is broadcast quality and if you have a broadband connection you will get the highest quality video currently available online.

What are the minimum system requirements for viewing In2Vista's video content?

Windows 98 although Windows XP is recommended.

Internet Explorer 6, Firefox or Safari we browser

Windows Media Player version 9 or above or Macromedia/Adobe Flash Player 8

Broadband connection

How does In2View integrate with existing systems?

In2View is designed to work with, rather than replace, existing recruitment database systems and business processes. It has been written in modern, cross-platform enterprise technologies to facilitate ease of integration.

Access to the system is via a web page with secure login, where each individual user's access privileges will have been pre-determined by their system administrator. This will fundamentally include a list of the assignments the user is authorised to access where they may view the candidates' videos, CVs and other details; accept, reject or request further information; and add other comments.

The open system architecture design means that integration with existing recruitment database systems is simplified to ensure that candidate videos can normally be accessed directly from within that system to populate In2View with this data automatically. Please ask for further details.

Common Problems

I cannot see or hear any video content

Most PCs are now shipped with all the software required to view video However there are many factors that may affect your ability to view video on line. Some of these factors and possible solutions are listed below:

Software versions

You may not have the latest versions of the relevant software:

Windows 98 although Windows XP is recommended.

Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.0

Windows Media Player version 9 or above

Broadband connection

Internet Connection Quality & Speed

A broadband connection is required to view our video content. The number of users that your connection is shared with and the bandwidth that is used for connection will affect your Internet connection quality. For example, if you access the Internet through an ISP or if you access the Internet through a network in an office, many users sharing this connection will cause congestion to the connection, which will reduce the quality of the video. If congestion is the problem, it is likely to be only temporary. If you retry later you may experience better results. The speed of your connection will also affect quality.

Firewalls & corporate restrictions

Your company or your ISP may restrict your access to the Internet. Please see the questions on Firewalls for more information.

Colour and Resolution settings

You may need to adjust your colour or resolution settings. We suggest that you use at least 16 bit colour (24 bit colour recommended) and a resolution of at least 800 by 600 pixels (1024 by 768 recommended).  Please see the section on Optimising/Customising your settings for more information.

I can hear audio but not see the video.

If you access the Internet through an ISP or if you access the Internet through a network in an office, many users sharing this connection will cause 'congestion' to the connection, which may reduce the quality of the video. If congestion is the problem, it is likely to be only a temporary problem. If you retry later you will usually experience better results.

I can see the video but not hear anything

Check that the audio on your PC is not muted.

Check that your PC has a sound card and/or speakers installed. In rare instances a set of external speakers or headphones may be required in order to guarantee sufficient volume levels.

If you access the Internet through an ISP or if you access the Internet through a network in an office, many users sharing this connection will cause congestion to the connection, which may reduce the quality of the video. If congestion is the problem, it is likely to be only temporary. If you retry later you may experience better results.

The video is jerky/unclear or of low quality

If you access the Internet through an ISP or if you access the Internet through a network in an office, many users sharing this connection will cause congestion to the connection, which will reduce the quality of the video. If congestion is the problem, it is likely to be only temporary. If you retry later may experience better results.

The specifications of your PC may affect video quality, for example, low processing speed or low memory.   Limiting the number of applications you have open when watching video streaming may also help.

You may need to adjust your colour or resolution settings. Please see the section on Optimising/Customising your settings for more information.

The video is constantly buffering

You may experience excessive buffering as result of a poor connection. Buffering occurs while Windows Media Player is collecting the data necessary to play the video.

Buffering should not affect the continuity of playback. Increasing the buffer time in Windows Media Player may remove this problem, although you may experience slightly increased video loading times. Please see the section on Optimising/Customising your settings for more information.

I get a security warning or JavaScript error message

To use the In2Vista website, you will need to enable scripting and active content (i.e. enable JavaScript and ActiveX). For more details see the relevant section on configuring Internet Explorer.

How can I access video if my company has a firewall in place?

A firewall is a system designed to restrict access to or from a private network (e.g. an office network) that is connected to the Internet. Almost every company that has an Internet connection will have a firewall.

Firewalls are used to implement security. Mostly they will restrict unauthorised users getting into the private network. Occasionally they will enforce restrictions on users within the private network who are trying to get out to the Internet e.g. preventing users from visiting certain websites on the Internet or blocking video streaming over the Internet.

A 'proxy server' may perform a similar function

Contact your IT department or Internet Service Provider (ISP) to ask them what you can do.

How can I tell if a firewall is blocking may access to video?

You may receive an error message about a firewall when trying to view content. If you suspect that a firewall is preventing you from viewing content, the easiest way to check is to contact your IT department or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

How can I optimize the viewing settings?

Internet Connection Speed

A Broadband connection is required.

Colour and Resolution settings

You may need to adjust your colour or resolution settings. We recommend that you use at least 16 bit colour and a resolution of at least 800x600 pixels.

PC Specification

The specifications of your PC may affect video quality, for example low processing speed or low memory. Use a higher spec PC wherever possible. Limiting the number of applications you have open when watching video streaming may also help.

Software versions

Ensure you have the latest versions of the relevant software available. We recommend that you use:

Windows 98 although Windows XP is recommended.

Internet Explorer 6 or Firefox 1.0

Windows Media Player version 9 or above

Time of viewing

If you access the Internet through an ISP or if you access the Internet through a network in an office, many users sharing this connection will cause 'congestion' to the connection, which may reduce the quality of playback. Watching content at off-peak times may improve quality.

How can I configure Windows Media Player to work behind a firewall?

If you suspect that a firewall is preventing you from viewing content, the easiest way to check is to contact your IT department or Internet Service Provider (ISP).
